Reading Response #2
It has become common today for everyone to use Internet when ever it is needed. It is a daily routine for some to use Internet and for others not so much. In the article, "Is Google Making Us Stupid," Nicholas Carr talks about how the Internet is changing our lives and how it is affecting us as people. Carr reports a claim which I believe is the most important one. "Never has a communications system played so many roles in our lives-or exerted such broad influence over our thoughts-as the Internet does today." I admire the way Carr explains in one sentence how the Internet deals with our life's. It is the most important claim because not everyone takes a minute like Carr and think how technology is affecting our daily life's or what role is the Internet playing for us. The whole article could be understood by this one claim. In the whole article, Carr is basically using various examples and quotes from other people to help him make his claim. Marshall Mcluhan quotes "My mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it; in a swift moving stream of particles." This helps Carr's claim to show how the Internet is influencing our thoughts and our way of thinking. Carr insists to explain to others, how Internet is changing us as humans and how much we are relying to it. Even if it its for a little research, a chat, an email or for entertainment people to look at it as an important way to think what is causing humans to do and think. Its changing us in various ways even, if their too small to look at. Nicholas Carr quotes "The more they use the web, the more they have to fight to stay focused on longish pieces of writing." Carr mentions this because we spend so much time in the Internet that we can no longer focus our self in a piece of writing. I happen to sympathize with an experience and agree with Carr because when I read online a piece of web with writing I have the intentions of skimming threw it to just get an idea of what its saying. But, when I try to do the same with a paper in front of me that's given to read or a book I try to do the same but, end up re reading the paper because i don't catch every detail or don't end up understanding what its saying or its main idea. A situation like this happens to many people because, we rather skim threw a piece of writing that is not so interesting to us rather than reading them carefully to catch every fact that it has. In the Internet we have so many distractions that go threw our mind of chatting and replying to emails. Many of these sites are so appealing to us, because we don't see them as enjoying something that we like specially when it comes to reading a piece of writing.
