Prompt #2

It is evident that schools how they are today are not working. In one way, or many, schools need to be changed in a way that will let students explore the pathway they want to continue for their life or different pathways than we see now. One major problem with schools, is the education policies in place, No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is a system that has been in place since 2002 and has not ever worked. The name, misleading, because it does exactly what is says it’s not going to do, leave children behind. Not only is NCLB bad, but the way schools are set up is bad too. Not only does it ruin creativity, it is educating children in ways that are not right for every child. Everyone learns differently and should be able to explore what is best for them, through creativity.
One way to change schools without completely changing them would be to let students have more independent study classes, maybe even require each student to do an independent student class each year to be able to be creative and learn on their own in ways they wouldn’t be able to with a teacher just lecturing them all day, every day. Students would be able to explore things deeper and what they actually wanted instead of just reading from text books and learning what they need to in order to graduate. All students would be able to benefit from this idea. It would be a way for schools to let students be more creative without taking out the whole entire structure of schools.
Schools would not have to fully change for students to be more creative. They would just have to be more lenient and let students have more freedom. This is something that is realistic and can be done.
